slide show

Our facility, Camp Krem, is located in the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains near the town of Boulder Creek. It provides campers with various developmental disabilities a place where they can enjoy many interesting and fun activities in a safe, nurturing environment. Our staff is experienced in the care of people with a variety of disabilities, including Down Syndrome, Autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy and many others. We offer six summer camp sessions with three unique types of programs, hosted in a complex that includes ten rustic cabins, an activity center / dining hall, an arts and crafts center, a special swimming pool designed for accessibility, a campfire area with a stage and large playground, basketball and sports areas. Also featured are miles of nature trails with many lovely outdoor camp sites available for use by campers. We encourage campers to choose activities from a variety of programs offered on a day-to-day basis, thus providing ample opportunities for them to socialize while developing personal independence.

Campers live in small groups of six to seven to a cabin with trained counselors who supervise their activities. General supervision ratio is one counselor to four campers, with one-to-one supervision available at additional charge. All campers must be evaluated to determine the level of supervision they require prior to acceptance into any of our programs.

Administrative staff includes an Executive Director, Camp Director, Program Director and Registered Nurse & Assistant. Activities are overseen by an Aquatic's Director, Lifeguards, Arts & Crafts Specialist, Outdoor Camp Specialist, Travel Camp Director, Counselor Coordinators, Counselors and Volunteers. We recruit staff from universities all over the US and also from many countries around the world.

Directions to Camp Krem

Very important note. Please do not use internet maps or navigators that route you through Bear Creek Road. It is a long, narrow, winding mountain road. Follow the directions below that route you through Highway 17 instead.

From the East Bay: Take Highway 880 South to San Jose. In San Jose 880 becomes Highway 17.

From San Francisco: Take Highway 280 South to Highway 85. Take 85 (toward Gilroy) to Highway 17.

Continue on Highway 17, toward Santa Cruz, into the Santa Cruz Mountains. The road is good here but be aware that there is often heavy traffic.

Our drive is narrow and winding so please drive slowly (10mph) and beep your horn at the blind corners to let people know you're coming. Remember that vehicles going uphill have the right of way.
