CAMP KREM VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES YEAR-ROUND PROGRAM & SUMMER CAMP - HOW TO APPLY YEAR – ROUND (Sept.- May) Since 1957, Camping Unlimited has offered outdoor recreational programs and summer camp activities for children and adults of all disabilities that may include Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, physical or emotional differences . Volunteers can join our weekend programs where they participate in a wide variety of outdoor activities such as hiking at state parks, attending sporting events or going to amusement parks. They sometimes attend cultural programs, see theatrical productions, go boating, swimming and more. Favorite activities include camping and exploring at our very own Camp Krem, in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Opportunities are also available to go on extended travel campers to places such as Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Washington or Disneyland. Volunteers contribute to the planning and coordinating these exciting events. Volunteers sign up 1-2 weeks in advance for any activity or trip of their choice. The monthly dates and information for all activities will be posted on the website. Volunteers will also be on our mailing list and receive our monthly brochure with trips available. Counseling can be a wonderful learning and life experience with many challenges but great rewards. It requires leadership, patience, a sense of humor and good judgment. Volunteers monitor the safety and care of campers. Under supervision, they also help with the camper’s personal care that may include dressing, feeding or toileting. Counselors learn new job skills and have wonderful time learning new recreational activities and exploring the great outdoors. On all events, Volunteers are transported via Camping Unlimited vehicles and can be picked up/returned from Emeryville. See our Fall Travel Schedule for dates you can volunteer. SUMMER PROGRAMS Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Age 15+ Summer Season Volunteer Counselors-In-Training may assist for a 2-week session at either traditional Main Camp or Outdoor camp. They sleep in rustic cabins or tents. There is no salary, but volunteers receive room and board while at camp. Camp Counseling is challenging but extremely rewarding. It requires compassion, maturity, patience, good judgment and a sense of humor. Volunteers also help with personal care of campers that may include dressing, feeding or toileting. Volunteers receive great benefits! Besides learning new job skills, and making great new friends, it is a wonderful way to explore our beautiful environment. Currently, California residency is required. Volunteers assist with the following activities: Primitive Camping, Campfire Programs, Camp Newspaper, Daily Swimming, Drama & Skits, Pep Squad, Arts & Crafts, Gardening, Nature Study, Cooking, Nature Hikes, Games, Camp Craft, Sports, Dance, Music, and. One-Three Day & extended Backpacking Treks. PLUS, We also have many field trips through the summer where we visit the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, (Pacific Ocean), Big Basin State Park, Monterey Bay and other beautiful locations. STEPS TO APPLICATION PROCESS: Complete and return the application form to our office. . We may arrange telephone interviews for certain applicants. All volunteers must also submit a medical release from their physician before camp time. We will hold orientation and training at Camp Krem. Parents or guardion must provide transportation to Camp Krem for their teen volunteer. SESSION INFORMATION: One and two week sessions are open to volunteers. Contact us for exact dates available.
